Profile
Satoko Moroi
Communication designer
Media artist
Satoko Moroi specializes in creating intriguing viewer interaction with her works to produce a new mode of communication from the plastic arts. She often uses digital devices as a means for expression. What should normally be just inorganic materials, these devices also bring the viewer herself into the composition depending on the staging, transforming the work into a beautiful, poetic scene. Within the relaxed atmosphere her exhibitions create, the sound of delighted laughter from the viewers can often be heard.

Satoko Moroi was born in Ibaraki Prefecture.
She had her debut showing of her interactive artworks in 2000, and since then she has had exhibitions of her works in museums both in Japan and overseas, as well as numerous exhibitions at ACM Siggraph and other professional associations.
After graduating from the School of Art and Design of the University of Tsukuba and working as a CG designer, Moroi began teaching 3D CG animation at the Japan Electronics College (JEC). While there, she began to create the interactive work Floating Words in collaboration with Shinji Sasada, a program director at JEC. In 2002, Moroi began teaching at the School of Science and Engineering at Tokyo Denki University (TDU).In 2007, Moroi began teaching at the School of Science and Technology for Future Life at TDU, and since then, with Ryoji Shibata, an associate professor at TDU, and other engineers, she has been producing artworks and conducting various workshops.
